recycle X

Recycle X consists of a series of ecological interventions against gentrification, workshops around recycling and urban design that lead to a practice based plan for the 'cultural main structure' in the centre of Dordrecht. A small team will initiate several highly visible yet subtle performances that stimulate the general public to rethink their cultural paradigm in respect to their direct cultural environment. For students with a background in site specific interventions, urban planning, ecology, anthropology, wearable technology, cultural industry and social studies Recycle X will be especially relevant.

Big South

The Big South project moves on where Go-for-IT!, the citygame The Patching zone is producing now in Rotterdam Zuid, stops. It uses the contacts and partnerships that have already been made in the area to work on a network that will motivate and facilitate young people from Rotterdam Zuid to start as a creative entrepreneur. To realize this, a Digital Lab will be built where a major end-event will be produced, together with our partners and young people from the area. Throughout the period there will be peer-to-peer workshops, where the exchange of skills and ideas are crucial. In the first phase the project will build a node of the international Living Lab network where young people can get experience with creative media applications in a digital media lab and get a strong theoretical and practical preparation in cultural and social entrepreneurship.

GoForIt!

GO FOR IT! is a creative collaboration project that will be developed for and with the youth, students and researchers in Rotterdam. The project is built around a series of creative technology workshops and public events, dealing with contemporary technology such as wearables, electronics, e-fashion, mobile communication and other means of expression. The outcome of the workshops and events will result in an interactive Urban Game to be performed and played in a public space in south Rotterdam’s city district Feijenoord. Go for IT! is commissioned by Rotterdam South Pact.

Cultuur Lokaal

Cultuur Lokaal was a collaboration between the Waterwolf laboratories (Haagse Hogeschool lectoraat Society and ICT by Dick Rijken), three cultural institutions in Gouda (Public Library Gouda, Regional Archive Central-Holland, Museum GoudA) and The Patchingzone. The Sia-RAAK public programme funded Cultuur Lokaal. We worked with professionals in the three cultural institutions to investigate new opportunities for their professional routines and collaborations with (in)formal local networks. Other parties involved in the realisation of the project are VPRO, Brekend Vaatwerk, Erfgoed Nederland and Syntens.

general patchingzone

The Patchingzone is a transdisciplinary laboratory for innovation where Master, doctor, post-doc students and professionals from different backgrounds create meaningful content. In our laboratories the students and researchers work together, supervised by experts, on commissions with creative use of high-tech materials, digital media and / or information technology.

The Patchingzone brings together people who are interested in building a shared practice. The participants come from a range of educational programs such as art schools, design schools, social and computer sciences, technical programs, and industry.

The Patchingzone applies the ‘Processpatching’ approach that is defined by its initiator’s (Anne Nigten) PhD thesis, as it’s main methodology for creative research and development, and builds on the knowledge and expertise from the V2_Lab, the research and development department of V2_. V2_ is a widely acknowledged centre for art and media technology, based in Rotterdam. V2_ produces, presents and distributes media art. Furthermore, we build on shared expertise from the network of collaborators and experts from the field.
